The Brothers Mattress story begins in the early 2000's when I helped start a local mattress and furniture store in Summerville while I was in High School. After a few years, I decided to follow in my Father's (Retired Navy Master Chief) footsteps and join the military.
In late 2004 I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After 2 deployments to Iraq and another deployment to the Middle East I got out of the Marine Corps and returned home to the Charleston area in 2010.
I attended Culinary School and worked as a Chef in downtown Charleston for years before transitioning to the hotel industry. My Son was born in December of 2014 followed by my daughter in April of 2016. Over the years I worked many different positions in the hospitality industry but struggled with the amount of time I was required to miss various different family events and milestones due to the demands of the industry. In early 2024 I made the difficult decision to leave the hospitality industry and try and find something that would allow me to be more present for my family.
That is when I ended up back in the Mattress and Furniture industry. After learning more about the industry, it became clear that the industry was becoming more and more corporate and predatory. I immediately knew that customers were tired of the increasing costs and "big box" stores that were dominating the market. That is when I knew that I had a new mission!
In the beginning of 2025, I began putting together a plan to open a small, local shop that truly focused on putting the needs of the customer first. At the forefront of this plan was sourcing high quality American made products made by companies that shared this philosophy! That is how the story begins!
The next step was finding the perfect location to open our first store. While going to one of my son's flag football games at Phillip Simmons High School I discovered the Point Hope area on Clements Ferry Road and immediately knew that this would be the perfect spot!
Next up was coming up with a name. Brothers Mattress came to mind because not only do I have three Brothers but like so many of my Brothers in arms, after the military, I struggled to find a way to provide for my family without being away from them. This company was founded to help provide for my family in a way that didn't require me to spend time away from them! Brothers Mattress is a place that I get to grow together with my family and yours!
Here at Brothers Mattress we are a true Family business with my Mom helping me in the store, my Dad helping me with deliveries, and my kids helping create flyers and also helping out in the store!
